How Many Weekly Points Do You Get On Weight Watchers

How Many Weekly Points Do You Get On Weight Watchers

This week we are going to get you started with one of many options in changing your physical body by giving you the steps for How To Do Weight Watchers For Free. As we embark on our year long journey to finding physical, mental and financial health, we are going to share one of the first big steps toward gaining control of your health.

How To Do Weight Watchers For Free

HOW TO DO WEIGHT WATCHERS FOR FREE

As we set realistic goals for wellness last week, this week we want you to take a step toward getting control of your eating habits.  Weight Watchers has become a widely popular method that is loved by many.  It's focus on moderation and easy way to count your food intake makes it a favored option by many.

Figure you point allowance:  For the sake of consistency, we are going to recommend that you use the more updated Points Plus system as that is what our current Weight Watchers recipes points reflect, as well as future recipes and information here.  Points Plus is slightly different because it counts fruits and vegetables in their raw form as zero points.

  • All Weight Watchers followers have 49 Bonus/Flex Points per week.  These can be used a little each day, or in larger chunks on special days.  It is best to use these in small increments throughout the week.
  • The minimum number of points per day is 26 and the maximum is 71.  Points are figured according to your weight, height and lifestyle (active, sedentary, etc.)
  • To figure your recommended daily Weight Watchers points allowance, this points plus allowable calculator is the way to go.  This is accurate and the same as what you would use if on the paid program.

Calculate points in your food.  Now that you know how many points you need to use each day, it's time to figure out what points are in your food.  There are a few ways to do this.

  • You can go the easy way and use a Weight Watchers calculator you have purchased from them.
  • You can also simply buy all of the Weight Watchers branded foods that already have the points figured for you.
  • The best and most financially sound way to figure is to use this simple Weight Watchers points calculator online.  You enter information and it spits out the points for you.  Basic, easy and free.

Make healthy food choices. One of the great things about Weight Watchers is the fact that there are no food restrictions.  You are not told you can't have something, you are simply told to account for it in your points each day.  The problem is, fueling your body with unhealthy options isn't going to give you the result you want.  Yes, you may lose some weight, but your body will still feel sluggish and either hungry or bloated and uncomfortable.  Using all 26 points on burgers and fries every day isn't really changing your wellness mentality.  You really must work to change the way you look at food and work to feed yourself better options more often than bad.  Include some of your favorites on occasion, but focus on healthier things the bulk of the time.  Knowing how to do Weight Watchers for free will save you the expense of monthly meetings that you can turn over and pay for better healthier food options with instead.

  • Eat lean meats like fish, chicken and turkey.
  • Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Limit processed packaged foods and choose homemade instead
  • Increase low fat dairy

Seek accountability. Whether you join a free online group like Spark People, Facebook groups or Google+ Circles, or you join with some local friends to hold you accountable this is a key step. You don't have to pay a monthly fee to find accountability with friends, family or even strangers online.  Being accountable for your weekly success can help you stay on track and make this not just a beginning, but a life long change for good.

As you continue this year long journey to physical, mental and financial health, focusing on your health is going to be one of the big goals you have.  Without good health, you cannot begin to have good financial or mental health.  This week as you learn how to do Weight Watchers for free, we hope you are able to refocus and step forward with goals in mind that you feel you can succeed with.

Everything You Need to Know About Blue Light

Photo Courtesy: Marvel Studios/The Walt Disney Studios/IMDb

For beach-goers, experts always recommend a healthy coating of sunscreen to protect the skin from those pesky ultraviolet (UV) rays. But sunlight contains more than just UV light. In fact, it's made up of red, green, yellow, blue and orange light rays, which combine to create "white light" (a.k.a. sunlight). If you haven't sat through a high school chemistry class in a while, no worries. We'll break down the important stuff — without getting too scientific.

As the name suggests, visible light can be seen by the human eye, and each ray reflects a particular color. The color of a given ray depends on said ray's wavelength (see the graphic below) — or the distance between successive crests of a wave. (Side note: This means that objects get their colors through the wavelength of the light that is reflected from them. Trust us — don't think too hard about it. Things get trippy.)

Another important relationship to note is that of wavelengths and energy: The longer the distance between waves, the less energy a ray has to offer. Think of it this way — if the wave crests are farther apart, they're a bit lackadaisical, but if the crests come in rapid succession, there's a frenzy of energy there. All of this means rays on the red end of the visible light spectrum have longer wavelengths and less energy, whereas rays on the blue end have shorter wavelengths and more energy.

UV rays, which aren't on the visible light spectrum, surpass blue light in terms of how much energy they contain. That incredible amount of energy is how those rays are able to create a physical change, like tanning (or burning) one's skin. In moderation ultraviolet radiation can be good for us (think vitamin D!), but, on the other hand, it can also produce some devastating effects (think sunburn and snow blindness!).

How Does Blue Light Impact One's Health?

But what about blue light — these visible rays that are a few notches below harmful UV rays? Well, approximately one-third of all visible light is considered high-energy visible (HEV) blue light. Blue light is literally why the sky appears blue: These rays scatter more easily than other visible rays of light when they strike the atmosphere's air and water molecules — and all that scattering makes the sky that vibrant blue.

There's no escaping it, especially because daylight is our main source of blue light. But it's not all bad: Experiencing blue light during the daytime helps regulate one's circadian rhythms, makes one more alert, elevates cognitive function, promotes good recall and is even used in light therapy to treat seasonal affective disorder (SAD). However, human-made objects — including LED lights and display screens on flat-screen TVs, computers and smartphones — emit blue light too. Although these devices only emit a fraction of the blue light the sun emits, researchers and doctors have still voiced concerns about patients' excessive screen time in recent years.

Perhaps surprisingly, the human eye is pretty great at protecting the retina from UV rays, but blue light is a different story. Virtually all of it penetrates the light-sensitive retina, causing damage that approximates macular degeneration — a condition that can lead to vision loss.

In addition to potentially harming your eyes over time, blue light can also lead to eye strain. If you've ever ended up with a wicked headache after staring intensely at an Excel spreadsheet for hours, you're probably familiar with that particular discomfort. When we noted how blue light contributes to the sky looking blue, we mentioned that this is so because of how blue light scatters. Well, according to All About Vision, this same scattering of the blue light that emanates from screens makes for "unfocused visual 'noise' [that] reduces contrast and can contribute to digital eye strain."

If you don't suffer from eye strain due to increased exposure to blue light, these inescapable rays may still have adverse effects on your health. Any sort of light — regardless of where it falls on the spectrum — can suppress the human body's ability to release melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep cycles. However, it's thought that blue light quashes melatonin secretion even more than other hues do. Researchers at Harvard University compared the effects of blue and green light exposure and found that "blue light suppresses melatonin [secretion] for about twice as long as the green light and shifted circadian rhythms by twice as much."

It's a Blue, Blue World

BluTech, a company that manufactures special blue light-filtering lenses, reports that "43% of adults have a job that requires prolonged use of a tablet or computer" — and that's just while said adults are on the clock. Factor in all that time we spend online, texting and marathoning Netflix, and adults spend roughly 12 hours a day looking at screens and taking in blue light. So, how can you mitigate the harmful effects of prolonged exposure to blue light?

Well, these blue light-filtering lenses are becoming all the rage. Although not as ubiquitous as Away suitcases or Blue Apron commercials, you've probably heard commercials for blue light-filtering specs from Felix Gray or Warby Parker on your favorite podcast or radio talk show. Felix Gray glasses, for example, pride themselves on having a blue light-filtering material embedded inside, which the company says will curb eye strain, headaches and sleep disruption.

If you're not into the glasses route, experts recommend taking screen breaks, both at work and at home; keeping screens clean to reduce glare and further eye strain; changing your abrasive white display background to something less bright; blinking more often; and avoiding screens for at least 30 minutes to an hour before bed because screens stimulate your brain. Maybe it's time to trade that fancy blue light-emitting tablet for a Kindle Paperwhite, or, you know, a good old-fashioned book.

What Are Some Design Ideas for Small Bathrooms?

Redecorating the rooms in your home can bring some chaos, but it also brings a lot of excitement as you watch an entirely new look come to life in rooms that had become mundane and dated. The long-term enjoyment and satisfaction you get from a newly redesigned bathroom, for example, is more than worth the short amount of time you spend completing the work.

When you're decorating a particularly small bathroom — or any small room — you have to make the most of every bit of available space. From creating practical spaces to letting your design imagination shine through, you could take your new bathroom in many different directions. Let's take a look at some great design ideas for small bathrooms.

Go Bold with Wallpaper

Wallpaper may seem like a dated idea, but many of today's modern prints and designs look nothing like those blocky, geometric designs from days gone by. Bold prints and striking patterns that might look overwhelming in a larger space can really shine in a small bathroom. Choose an accent wall and decorate it with bright colors or a punchy pattern or go dramatic and wallpaper the entire bathroom in a textured print.

Keep Counter Lines Clean

If you have an ample budget, changing your bathroom counter can really change the entire feel of the bathroom. Choose a design that adds crisp, clean lines to the space. Decorative finishes and scalloped edges may seem fancy and tempting, but they can distract from the rest of the room and diminish your counter space. Additionally, patterned designs on the walls call for "non-busy" counters and accessories to avoid a cluttered feel.

Add a Design Element to the Ceiling

If decorating the walls isn't your style or you don't have a lot of open wall space, consider adding an eye-catching design element to the ceiling instead. Drawing visitors' eyes up to the ceiling helps create the illusion that your overall bathroom space is much larger than it actually is, according to Elle Decor.

Consider a Floating Sink

Okay, so maybe floating sinks don't really float, but these types of pedestal sinks with no surrounding counters almost give the impression they are really suspended in midair. This sink style allows you to eliminate bulky counters and cabinets by skipping the traditional bathroom vanity. If counter space isn't important to you, look for a modern floating sink with minimal plumbing to keep your walls and floor tidy.

Think Outside the Shower Stall

Traditional shower stalls and bathtubs take up a lot of valuable space in a tiny bathroom. If you've got the budget for a full replacement, consider turning your standard bathroom into a European-style bathroom with an open shower and drain on one end of the room, partially separated by a transparent sheet of laminated glass.

Try Hanging a Towel Bar

If you plan on keeping the counter and you need more counter space, hang a towel bar (or two) to free up space. These bars can hold standard hand towels or even full-size body towels in most cases. This use of vertical storage space saves some of your limited square footage for other uses. As a bonus, you can find plenty of towel bars with decorative designs to spruce up your walls as well.

Bring Some Natural Light In

One of the biggest problems in a small space is the lack of light, and dark rooms with poor lighting look not only dismal but also seem much smaller than they actually are. If your bathroom has a window, install decorative blinds or a window shade in a color and material that lets some natural light in, even when the blinds are closed or the shade is pulled down.

Spring for an Oval Mirror

You know how funhouses always have halls and rooms with funky mirrors in them? The logic is simple — mirrors are great at creating optical illusions. Oval mirrors, in particular, create an illusion of height, and every mirror reflects both artificial and natural light to make rooms much brighter. Place an oval mirror over the sink or an open wall to add brightness and create the illusion of extra height in your small bathroom.

Use Ledges or Shelves for Storage

If you're completely remodeling your small bathroom, consider choosing a shower and tub enclosure with storage ledges in the walls. If your do-over isn't that extensive, you could hang shelves in the shower enclosure or above the sink. Ledges and shelves are great for storing shower and hair products that you don't want cluttering your counters.

Choose Flexible Storage Options

As much as you want to avoid clutter in a small bathroom, it's inevitable that you need certain items in the room. The storage items you choose are determined by the style choices you make throughout the room. If you opt for a pedestal sink, you might be able to slide a basket with fresh towels underneath it. If your shower doesn't have shelves, then look for a hanging shower caddy to drape over the shower head to hold your supplies. If you hang a shelf near your sink, pick up some cute containers to place on it to hold your toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush and other essentials.

On a quiet street in Clifton a Georgian townhouse has undergone a stunning transformation. Inside, our designer Tim was tasked with creating three functional and inviting bathrooms. A key aspect of the brief was storage, as the bathrooms needed to stand up to every day family life whilst still maintaining the luxury aesthetic of the period property. The family bathroom cleverly conceals a boiler behind soft blue paneling while the shower is enclosed with an innovative frameless sliding screen allowing a large showering space without compromising the openness of the space. The ensuite bathroom with floating sink unit with built in storage and solid surface sink offers both practical storage and easy cleaning. On the top floor a guest shower room houses a generous shower with recessed open shelving and another practical floating vanity unit with integrated sink.
